Almost Good Enough.
Breaking Free from the Pressure to Perfect, Prove, and Perform.
Small group. Deep work. Something that stays.
You understand why you do it.
So why are you still doing it?
You've done the work. The therapy, the books, the retreat that felt life-changing for about three weeks. You can explain your patterns better than most people can explain theirs. And yet you still reread the emails, still say yes when you mean no, still hear your mother's tone come out of your own mouth. Somewhere along the way, understanding yourself became one more thing to be good at, and one more standard to fall short of.
Awareness isn't the same as change. This workshop works at the layer underneath the insight, where the patterns actually live.
The world needs more people who understand themselves deeply enough to show up with real compassion, for themselves and for the people around them. Not the kind of compassion that comes from a motivational quote. The kind that comes from genuinely understanding why you do what you do, and discovering that it makes sense. That you make sense. That there was never anything wrong with you in the first place.
And the patterns keep showing up, even while you are trying to figure them out. It's when you snap at your teenager and you regret it by bedtime. It's the thing you've been "getting ready" to start for years. It's the quiet exhaustion of holding it all together so no one sees how hard it is.
That's what this workshop is about. Understanding yourself. And letting that understanding change how you hold everything.
That's what this workshop is about. Not fixing yourself. Understanding yourself. And letting that understanding change how you hold everything.
If you've caught yourself thinking any of these, you're in the right place.
I've done so much work on myself. Why am I still like this?
I should be past this by now."
I'm so tired of managing myself.
Everyone thinks I've got it together.
I keep saying next year.
I know I should just put it out there. So why do I keep finding reasons not to?.
I'm so tired of getting in my own way.
These aren't signs that something is wrong with you. They're signs that something underneath your awareness is running the show. This workshop shows you what it is.
Three patterns. One shared experience.
Most people who find this work don't see themselves in just one of these patterns. They see themselves in all three, just in different areas of their life: the standards at work, the dream that keeps waiting, the version of themselves they bring home.
The person who is exhausted by their own standards
You hold yourself to a higher standard than most people around you. You reread, redo, and rethink things, not because they aren't good enough by anyone else's measure, but because they don't meet yours. You've been told to ease up, and it annoys you. The standard isn't something you're choosing. It's something deeply ingrained. And you've started to notice that no matter how well something goes, your mind finds the part that wasn't right.
The person who is tired of playing small
You have things to say, work to share, contributions to make, and you consistently find yourself waiting for the right moment, which doesn't arrive. You've passed on opportunities and told yourself it was timing. You've watched other people put themselves out there with work that isn't better than yours, and instead of that being motivating, it sits with you in a way that's hard to name. You're not afraid of hard work. Something about visibility is where things stall.
The person who keeps showing up for everyone except themselves
You're the one people count on. You anticipate what others need, you smooth things over, you make sure everyone around you is okay, often before they've asked. And you're good at it. But you've started to notice the costs. You say yes when you mean no. You adjust what you think to match what the room needs. You leave conversations wondering why you didn't say the thing you actually wanted to say.
These three patterns look different on the surface. Underneath, they're driven by something remarkably similar. This workshop shows you what that is, why it makes sense, and what changes when you can finally see it.
A guided journey inward. One layer at a time.
This workshop unfolds across four live sessions, each building on the last. Between sessions, you have a full week to practice what you've learned, notice it in your own life, and arrive the following week with real observations from your own experience. That spacing is intentional. It's where the work goes from understanding to felt recognition.
What Your System Is Doing
Through a guided experiential exercise, you'll feel how your nervous system shifts between protection and growth in real time, in your own body. Then we introduce the three patterns, Perfecting, Proving, and Performing, and you'll start to see which ones are running in you. Most participants are surprised by what they find in the first session.

How the Pattern Works
We go deeper into the internal architecture of these patterns: where they live in your body, what beliefs are running underneath them, and how a single painful childhood experience can quietly shape decades of adult behavior. Often it’s not just what happened, it's what was missing, which can be just as formative in childhood. You'll map your own pattern through a guided exercise and see, often for the first time, the connection between a current behavior and the belief driving it.

Why It Makes Sense
This is the week where something tends to soften. You'll learn why every one of your patterns, the ones you've been judging yourself for, has positive intention. You'll discover what was missing from the picture when you were being hardest on yourself. And you'll encounter a principle that often changes how participants hold themselves from this point forward: given what was happening, you were doing your best. The goal is progress, not perfection.

What To Do Now
Everything comes together. You'll experience what it actually feels like when the patterns aren't running, a grounded, open quality that we call your authentic self. From that place, you'll practice a process for meeting your patterns with compassion rather than judgment. You'll leave with a tool for recognising the beliefs driving your behaviour, a felt sense of who you are underneath the pressure, and a greater capacity to respond from conscious choice rather than automatic reaction.
A practical worksheet for ongoing use
Each session includes live teaching, guided exercises, and partner work in breakout rooms where you apply what you're learning to your own real situations. Recorded walk-throughs of each week's takeaway exercise are provided so you have a clear reference between sessions.
The four-week format is intentional. Instead of absorbing everything in a single day, you walk one tool at a time. Each week you take what you've learned into your own life, notice it, practice it, and return the following week with real observations and questions. That rhythm of learning, reflecting, and returning builds a foundation that lasts. The insights don't just land intellectually. They become part of how you see yourself and how you move through your days.

Your Facilitators
Guides who have walked this path themselves.
The frameworks of Expanding You weren’t built from theory alone. They were forged through lived experience. The facilitators of this workshop don’t stand outside this material looking in. They have navigated it themselves, and that distinction is felt throughout the work.
Lynn Sumida, MSW/RSW
Co-Founder, Expanding You Trainer & TherapistGrowing up in a large family with a Japanese father and an English mother, I was surrounded by expectations, rules, and ideas about who I should be. I built my sense of worth around achievement, doing things "properly," and trying to get it right.
It wasn't until my divorce that I realized how much my self-esteem depended on accomplishment and external validation. I've realized that wholeness does not come from performance or perfection. It comes from reconnecting with the part of ourselves that has always been worthy underneath the conditioning and striving.
Jeff Brown
Co-Founder, Expanding You Transformation CoachFor most of my life, I looked successful on the outside. Driven, ambitious, achieving. What I didn't see was the wound underneath, a deep belief that I wasn't enough was unconsciously pushing me forward through comparison, pressure, and shame.
The turning point wasn't a single moment. It was the slow, humbling work of catching my inner critic in action. Each time I noticed, something shifted. If you're someone who's been succeeding through drive and pressure, only to wonder if there's another way to live, this workshop is for you.

Everything you want to know before you commit.
Very likely yes, and we say that with deep respect for the work you've already done. Most approaches work at the level of awareness and understanding, and that work matters. But there's a layer underneath where these patterns actually formed, and most approaches don't go there. This workshop does. People who've done significant personal growth work often find this to be the piece that was missing.
The content and exercises are the same. The difference is pacing: instead of a single immersive day, you get four sessions spread across four weeks. That spacing actually has an advantage. You have time to notice the patterns in your own life between sessions, so by the time you come back each week, you're bringing real observations, not just ideas. The breakout rooms for partner exercises work well online, and the smaller screen format often feels more intimate than you'd expect.
Creating genuine safety is not an afterthought here. It is the foundation. The entire workshop is built around the concept of nervous system safety, and the facilitation reflects that. Things may well come up. That's often where the most valuable work happens. You will never be pushed beyond what is right for you.
Not at all, though many participants have. What matters is that you're genuinely curious about why you do what you do, and open to experiencing something beyond intellectual understanding. The work meets you exactly where you are.
Each session builds on the previous one, so attending all four is ideal. If something comes up, recorded walk-throughs of the key exercises are available so you can stay current with the material. We're happy to discuss specific scheduling concerns before you register.
Absolutely, and many of our participants are helping professionals. As helping professionals ourselves, we know the value of focusing on our own growth as a path to being the best guides we can be. Understanding the nervous system dimensions of what our clients carry is invaluable, and you'll understand it in a way no textbook can offer.
Yes. This workshop is a powerful standalone experience, and it also serves as a natural foundation for those wanting to go deeper. Integration resources are provided to all participants, and we offer pathways for ongoing support through our Inner Discovery, Inner Balance programs and beyond.
One Day… Something Lasting
You’ll leave this workshop with a clear understanding of what’s been driving the pressure, not as theory, but as something you’ve felt and practised responding to differently. And you’ll leave with a practical process to meet it differently when it shows up again.
The practical takeaways are just the tip of the iceberg. This day is really about understanding your own humanness, how you’re wired, why your patterns make sense, and what’s been happening beneath your awareness. It’s a kind of understanding people are rarely offered about themselves.
And when you genuinely understand why you do what you do as something deeply human, it changes how you show up. With the people you love, the work you do, and with yourself. Not because the patterns vanish, but because you’re no longer working against something you can’t see.
