You know
better. So why does it feel like this?

You show up beautifully: thoughtful, self-aware, capable. Until something triggers you, and suddenly all of that awareness disappears. The inner critic returns. The spiral begins. And no matter how much you understand it, the pressure doesn't stop.

This is not a flaw. It is not a lack of willpower or effort. It is your nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do, and no amount of thinking your way through it will change that.

This day was built for what comes next.

Does This Sound Like You

The exhaustion of holding it together… endlessly.

There is a particular kind of tired that doesn’t come from doing too much, but from the relentless inner pressure behind everything you do. A voice that measures, compares, warns, and whispers that you are not quite there yet.

This workshop was created for people who are committed to building self-awareness, and are still caught in patterns they can’t seem to escape. This is because the root of those patterns has never been reached.

If you have ever felt the gap between the person you know you are and the person who shows up when things get hard, this day is for you.

Do you recognize yourself?

  • You overthink decisions, second-guess yourself, and feel confused about why you can't move forward with confidence, even when you know exactly what you want.

  • You know better, but the gap between your insight and your lived experience feels maddening, and the self-judgment that follows makes it worse.

  • You show up beautifully in calm moments then snap back into pressure, reactivity, or withdrawal when things get hard.

  • You feel like it's all on you to hold it together. For everyone. All the time. And quietly, the weight of that is becoming impossible to ignore.

  • There's an inner war between what you genuinely want and what you think you should want, and you've lost trust in your ability to know the difference.

  • You've done therapy, coaching, courses. Things have shifted but the pressure never fully lifts. Something deeper is still running the show.

Why You Are Still Stuck

The reason nothing has quite worked.

Most personal development approaches treat the inner critic as a thought to be changed. A belief to be reframed. A mindset to shift.

What we know, and what the science confirms: your inner critic is not primarily a mental phenomenon. It was born in your nervous system and lives there. And it responds twenty times the speed of conscious thought.

By the time you’ve noticed the spiral, your nervous system has already made its move. Thinking your way out isn’t available, not because you aren’t capable enough, but because that’s simply not how the brain works under activation.

This is why so much personal growth work produces insight without transformation. Intellectual understanding cannot reach the nervous system. And until you work at that level, the pattern stays.

The trap in the growth journey is that the more you know, the louder the critic can become. It now has more to measure you against. This is why it’s important to go deeper than thought alone.

Why You're Still Stuck

You cannot override your nervous system with thinking alone. But you can learn to meet it where it lives, and that changes everything.

The perspectives that matter most...

01

The Critic Is Not the Enemy

Your inner critic developed for a reason. It was trying to keep you safe, emotionally, socially, relationally. Understanding where it came from, and what it's genuinely trying to protect, begins a completely different relationship with it. We are not here to remove this part of you. We're here to finally understand it.

02

Safety Is the Fundamental Question

Your nervous system has one primary question: Am I safe? Not just physically but emotionally. Relationally. Will I belong? Will I be rejected? Will I lose connection? Will I fail? When the answer feels uncertain, the critic activates. This is not weakness, it's biology.

03

You Are Always Doing Your Best

Every pattern, every reaction, every moment where you felt like you failed was you, doing the best you were capable of with the capacity and programs you had at the time. Feeling this truth, not just thinking it, begins to dissolve the very foundation the critic stands on.

04

Self-Sabotage Runs on Outdated Programs

What looks like self-sabotage is almost always a nervous system running programs that made sense at one point in your life and have never been updated. The goal isn't to fight those programs. It's to understand them so completely that you can finally offer your system something better.

What this Day Holds

A Journey Inward: embodied, experiential, and lasting.

This is not a lecture. It is not a seminar where you receive information and leave with a binder.

This is a carefully guided experiential day, built so that insights land in the body, not just the mind. You will feel the difference, not just understand it.

We work in a smaller group, which means the facilitation is real, the connection is genuine, and the depth of what becomes possible goes far beyond what a crowded room allows.

Session Columns
Morning

Meeting Your Critic
With New Eyes

We begin by giving the inner critic a voice, not to fight it, but to finally hear it clearly. Through a carefully guided exercise, most participants discover within the first hour that they've been in a relationship with this voice their entire lives without truly seeing it. What follows is a visceral understanding of how the nervous system responds, and what it has always been trying to protect.

Midday

Understanding the Roots
and the Cost

We explore how your nervous system formed its patterns, what it truly means to always be doing your best, and how the critic keeps stealing your access to ease, peace, and joy; the three things we all want and find most elusive. Participants often describe this as the moment something they've "known" for years becomes real in a way they can finally feel.

Afternoon

Building a
New Relationship

We focus on what to do when the critic shows up and how to give yourself full permission to be gloriously, authentically messy. You will learn how to start building inner safety and expanded capacity in everyday moments. You will leave with tools, felt experience, and a new sense of what's genuinely possible for you going forward.

Who This Is For

For those ready for the work behind the work

This workshop is for anyone who is tired of the constant pressure to be perfect, perform, and prove themselves.

You don’t need to be in crisis or have a diagnosis. You just need to be honest that something isn’t working and willing to find out why, at a level you likely haven’t gone to before.

The depth and nuance of this work offers profound value to even the most seasoned coaches, counselors, and educators, not only as participants, but as practitioners seeking to understand what their clients carry at a physiological and biological level.

People who have done counseling or coaching without satisfactory results find our work particularly powerful. If that's you, you are precisely who we built this for.

01

You're in your 30s, 40s, or 50s and have been on a personal growth journey for years but something keeps pulling you back into the same patterns regardless.

02

You're self-aware enough to recognize the inner critic, but genuinely unsure why you can't seem to change your relationship with it despite all your effort.

03

You've found value in therapy, coaching, or mindfulness and you also sense that something essential is still missing. Something deeper hasn't been touched.

04

You're drawn to a more spiritual or holistic path but aren't sure how to begin or how to make it genuinely practical, not just conceptual.

05

You're a helping professional who wants to understand the nervous system dimensions of the patterns your clients carry from the inside out, not just academically.

06

You are simply exhausted from performing your way through life and some part of you knows there is a way out. You're ready to find it.

Testimonials
“

After fifty years on the personal development and spiritual path, I came into this workshop thinking I knew the territory. What I didn't expect was how deeply I'd come to understand the inner critic itself, how it's formed, the purpose it serves, and how it lives in the nervous system.

At times I've judged myself harshly for not quite grasping something. I can see now, that's the critic. Creating a new relationship with it and meeting that voice with patience and compassion, while understanding its positive intentions, was helpful. The practical tools for what to do when the critic arises were invaluable. This workshop was absolutely wonderful and meaningful.

This workshop filled the gap that years of self-awareness work couldn't. I now recognize when my inner critic is running the show, and how to shift into a calmer, more confident place. The learnings have genuinely stuck with me in real life.

The team made this. They showed up as real, relatable humans and held space for us to be open and honest with ourselves. That safety is what allowed the work to land. I now have a real tool for recognizing my inner critic, and choosing something calmer instead.

The inner critic exercise at the start of the day was the most confronting and compassionate thing I've ever experienced in a workshop setting. I came in defending my critic. I left understanding it and myself completely differently.

Two things landed deeply for me. The conversation around capacity made me realize I rarely give myself permission to acknowledge where I actually am in any given moment. And the idea of befriending the inner critic shifted something in me. It's been a good reminder that my critic may be more of a messenger than something to fight against, and that I can learn to communicate with it differently.

The Inner Critic Workshop was extremely illuminating. It can be difficult to escape cycles of self-criticism without first recognizing our patterns and where they stem from. This workshop created a very warm, safe, and welcoming space for us to explore these themes, and to learn from and with our group.

Leslie, Lynn, and Jeff's backgrounds and energies complement each other so well and their fun and light hearted approach to this type of work is very refreshing.

Growing up in a large family with a Japanese father and an English mother, I was surrounded by expectations, rules, and ideas about who I should be. Like many people, I built my sense of worth around achievement, doing things "properly," and trying to get it right.

I began personal growth in my early twenties because I longed for emotional freedom and a deeper connection to myself. But it wasn't until my divorce that I realized how much my self-esteem depended on accomplishment and external validation. During that time, my inner critic had a great deal to say, especially about being a professional who was struggling personally.

I've realized that wholeness does not come from performance or perfection. It comes from reconnecting with the part of ourselves that has always been worthy underneath the conditioning and striving. The journey toward self-acceptance and inner freedom continues to be one of the most liberating experiences of my life.

For most of my life, I looked successful on the outside. Driven, ambitious, achieving. What I didn't see was the wound underneath, a deep belief that I wasn't enough was unconsciously pushing me forward through comparison, pressure, and shame. It wasn't until I got serious about my own development that I realized my confidence was actually bravado, and my engine was running on insecurity.

The turning point wasn't a single moment. It was the slow, humbling work of catching my inner critic in action. Each time I noticed, something shifted. Through the tools and core principles we've developed at Expanding You, I learned to meet that critic with compassion instead of more judgment.

If you're someone who's been succeeding through drive and pressure, only to wonder if there's another way to live, this workshop is for you. You're not alone in this. And there absolutely is a way through.

I know this work from the inside.

After my divorce, I found myself trying to rebuild, not just a life, but a sense of who I was. As a single mother to two young girls, the pressure I put on myself was relentless. To be strong. To be capable. To prove I was still enough. The inner critic didn't announce itself as the problem, it disguised itself as drive, as standards, as love.

What it actually created was burnout. A kind of depletion so deep that I struggled to regulate, to be present, and to be the mother I genuinely wanted to be for my girls. The gap between who I knew I was and who kept showing up was painful, and baffling.

That journey is what brought me to this work. And it's why I hold this space with everything I have.

This is deeply personal work, held in a small group setting to ensure every participant has genuine space. Because of that, enrollment is intentionally limited and when these seats are gone, they’re gone.

What you take from this day isn’t just information. It’s a shift in how you understand yourself at a level that stays. Participants consistently describe this as a powerfully valuable day, and the most surprising thing is they didn’t know just how much they needed it.

There is also a natural pathway for those who want to continue. This workshop pairs powerfully with our Inner Balance program for those ready to build lasting capacity from the ground up.

FAQ

Not at all, though many participants have. What matters is that you're genuinely curious about why you do what you do, and open to experiencing something beyond intellectual understanding. The work meets you exactly where you are.

Very likely yes, and we say that with deep respect for the work you've already done. Most therapeutic and coaching approaches are primarily cognitive. This day goes to the nervous system, the biological layer that most approaches don't reach. People who have "done everything" often find this work to be the piece that was missing.

Creating genuine safety is not an afterthought here, it is the foundation. The entire day is built around the concept of nervous system safety, and the facilitation reflects that. Things may well come up; that's often where the most valuable work happens. You will never be pushed beyond what is right for you.

Absolutely, and many of our participants are helping professionals. As helping professionals ourselves, we absolutely know the value of focusing on our growth as a path to being the best guides we can be. Understanding the nervous system dimensions of what our clients carry is invaluable, and you'll understand it in a way no textbook can offer.

Yes. This workshop is a powerful standalone experience, and it also serves as a natural foundation for those wanting to go deeper. Integration resources are provided to all participants, and we offer pathways for those ready for ongoing support through our Inner Balance program and beyond.

Enrollment is deliberately small. The depth of this work requires genuine space for each person which means we limit group size to ensure the experience is real, not just theoretical. You will not be lost in a crowd here.

One Day. Something Lasting.

You have been carrying this long enough.

This workshop won't hand you a new framework to measure yourself against. It will help you see, perhaps for the first time, that you have always been enough.

And it will give you a way to live from that truth, not just think it.
